The day started with a lead-out from Bob to get to rt 34, bright and early. I was sad to see him head home in the car- as he said and I agreed, it feels like I’m part of his family. And it felt that way with a few other families I’ve stayed with along this journey too- I must say, by the time I stop again, I’m telling people all about it.

Crossing into another state was definitely a great thing. As you saw from the photo, I crossed the Platte river at Plattsmouth, and that was fun. I know the sign says I had to pay 25 cents, but I got to cross for free. Success. Here’s the tricky thing, too: many NE-IA bridges are closed due to the river being flooded. Here’s proof:

That was one of those new-fangled underwater farms, you see. The farmer himself was underwater too. After crossing, I just had a few miles to Glenwood, and it was only 2pm!

So what’d I do? I soaked up cooler air in the library. After I left, I went into a gazebo. A yard or two over, a man was seemingly looking at me. So I said hi! Jessie and I got to talking, and after some time, he offered me a seat at his dinner table! Turns out, it was his son’s 16th birthday that they were celebrating,

Thank you to Jessie’s wonderful family- you rock ! I really enjoyed wishing happy birthday! They offered a bed to sleep in and a clean shower to boot. 🙂 thanks so much! am set to stop in Creston tomorrow. 73 miles!

Goodnight!

Doug

    Hey Doug!
Awesome that you got lodging and grub for the first night in Iowa. I’m loving your pictures, time for a quick video, hint hint hint. I hope you can continue to get as much press as possible to spread the word and provide inspiration for those recovering. Your visit with us will be a wonderful memory.

It was so great to meet you! On With Life wishes you happy trails! Remember the line from Field of Dreams – “Is this Heaven? No, it’s Iowa”. The midwest is the best 🙂

In Nebraska, I did a field of dreams photo, and subtitled it, ‘If you ride it, they will come….’. Look for it! It might be on twitter.

It was perfect meeting you and your patients and fellow specialists! Keep smiling and doing great! Say hi to Doug(s) for me!
